Google opened its “Family” section on Tuesday as a place for parents and guardians to find downloads which are supposed to be kid-friendly.

It’s the same Apps store that Android users make use of, just with a focus on children’s app, games and interactive learning all geared towards the young ones.

Subcategories include:

  • Acton & Adventure
  • Brain Games
  • Creativity
  • Education
  • Music & Video
  • Pretend play
  • Ages 5 & Under
  • Ages 6-8
  • Ages 9 & Up

Everything is nicely laid out with the navigation menu which also includes sections for Top Charts and New Releases.

There is also a handy parent guide to assist guardians while navigating through the Family store.

Google Play Family Dashboard

While on the Google Play store, parents can look out for the green star badge which tells you the audience the content is made for.

Example:

  • Family-friendly: Both kids and adults
  • Age: Kids of a specific age between 0-12

The new Family category is an easier way which will help parents decide which content on the Play store is suitable for kids.

With more than 1.4 million  apps on Google Play, it can be hard to distinguish from those which are proper and which are not.

Just head over to the Google Play Family section for more details on who you can take advantage of this new category.
