It’s no secret Lamborghini has been working on a Lambo SUV model vigorously in the last couple of years. As to not miss out on any potential profits the SUV market offers, as well as please the large demand, they’ve been keen on releasing the SUV as soon as possible. Although we didn’t know a lot of details the Urus SUV, well anything really, Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed the power output for the very first time: 650 horsepower.

That, in case you were wondering, is 80 horsepower more than the original Murcielago and 10 more than the LP640 version. It’s actually 50 more than you get from the current Huracan and the most powerful SUV currently on the market, the Bentley Bentayga. Now, if that doesn’t scream Lamborghini, we don’t know what does.

Unlike any other Lamborghini ever made, it will feature a V8 under the hood. The unit in question has been additionaly twin-turbocharged to be able to deliver the mountainous 650 horsepower and, presumably, 600+ lb-ft of torque.

Traditionally, Lamborghini’s vehicles have been all about the looks and the sound. Although for the most part they also drove good, that didn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Some of their best cars were extremely difficult, if not neigh-on impossible to drive.

The unresponsive Countach, the twitchy Diablo, the list goes on and on. But that was what made them so likable. The new Lamborghini Urus SUV seems to nail the design front, but only time will tell if the lack of any V12 or V10 under the hood has taken its toll on the traditional ‘Lamborghini feel’.

Production will start in early-to-mid 2018, with first Urus models reaching U.S. shores by the end of the same year. A hybrid version will probably make an entrance sometime in 2019, by which point Lamborghini is hoping to increase sale figures from just 1,000 examples in 2018 to 3,500 or above. Knowing Lamborghini and their loyal customer base, we’ll be honestly surprised if they can keep up with, what will be inevitably, a large demand, making this Lambo SUV a soon to be must-have

I love everything that has to do with cars. I could practically name every manufacturer and model before i could even say mom or dad. Recently i've taken up motorsport, with plans to travel to England and compete should the perfect opportunity arise. In my spare time i like to do some biking, and occasionally play the guitar.
